MaxSIMhealth's mission is to pinpoint shortcomings in current simulation practices and revolutionize systems by introducing innovative solutions to enhance the effectiveness of simulation in healthcare settings worldwide. Our unique ecosystem-oriented approach seamlessly integrates fundamental research laboratories, healthcare professional training facilities, and commercial partnerships, while leveraging a wide spectrum of professions, expertise, industries, and end-users.
Currently, our focus is on three interconnected areas:
1. STEPS program: Establishing innovative educational pathways to prepare students without clinical backgrounds for roles as simulation technologists. To learn more, please visit our project website.
2. Technology and Pedagogy: With the advent of technologies such as 3D printing, mixed reality, and serious gaming, new opportunities are emerging to bridge the gap between industry and academia. Traditionally, the simulation industry sector, focused on educational delivery and training using simulation platforms, and the simulation research sector, dedicated to evidence-informed development of simulation technology and techniques, operated independently. We exist at a time when technology can aid in closing this gap, leading to enhanced simulation practices and more focused research on pertinent issues.
3. Diffusion of Simulation: Integrating simulation into areas where it is currently underutilized. While simulation in healthcare education is becoming standard practice, other related fields may not fully benefit from simulation. Our aim is to challenge this notion and introduce simulation into all aspects of education where experiential, hands-on learning can result in improved educational outcomes.
